I slowly and patiently teach computers how to search the genome looking for interesting things. It is amazing, they can do thingsĀ in seconds that it would take me weeks to do manually.

Every day is actually quite varied, there is coding to be done but also analysis of the results, drawing them into graphs and even a bit of fieldwork if I’m lucky.

Fund a podcast series on interesting plants.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Cheerful, inquisitive, patient
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Yes, I was cast as Puck in “Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
Who is your favourite singer or band?
I really like Adele.
What's your favourite food?
Sweet potatoes and cheese (odd I know).
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
1) I’d really like a time-turner. 2) I have a strange desire to be able to photosynthesise, preferably without being green. 3) Is it cheeky to ask for two more wishes?
Tell us a joke.
What do you call two crows sitting on a branch? An attempted murder. (The collective noun for crows is a murder of crows!)
