My hero is a lady named Mary Anning. She lived from 1799 – 1847. She was famous for finding and collecting fossil, many of which became the first dinosaurs and prehistoric sea reptiles like the Icthyosaurs. Her work contributed to fundamental changes in scientific thinking about prehistoric life and the history of the Earth.

Also and very importantly she was a women, which during her day meant that she was not well respected. Indeed, much of her work was stolen and she died in poverty. We know know that she did brilliant science and even taught herself fluent french so she could write to famous scientist of her day. She was an amazing women who had a very hard life. I respect her very much and would love to go back in time and tell her how important she was.

I really like Gerald Durrell, he founded a Trust in 1963 and its mission was to save species from extinction. He was one of the first people to start using zoos for the purposes of wildlife conservation – really cool. He also wrote fantastic books, for kids and adults – my favourite one when I was little was ‘The Fantastic Flying Journey’ where the characters fly off in a giant hot air balloon house ( a bit like in ‘Up’) and they drank a magic potion which let them speak to the animals they met 🙂

But my favourite now is called ‘My Family and Other Animals’ it is really funny and tells the story about when Gerald was growing up in Greece and all the trouble he got into while exploring and learning about the local wildlife – it’s brilliant and reminds me of the scrapes I used to (and sometimes still do) get into for the sake of animals!

      Hi,

My biggest hero is Alan Turing. He is the man that invented the computer and he was also very important in defeating the Nazis during World War 2 by using science!
