Grass is a plant, so it uses carbon dioxide (which it takes in from the air) and sunlight to make energy in the form of sugars and carbohydrates. They can use these carbohydrates to build new cells – think of it like adding a new brick to a wall! So that’s how grass grows and it’s one reason why grass grows faster in the summer when there is more sunlight (which is why your mum and dad might have to use the lawn mower more often during summer!).
